Dr. Stephen Mbithi the Chief Executive of Fresh Produce Exporters Association of Kenya Flowers Industry reported to Capital Business for Fresh Flowers in Kenya that, demand for Fresh flowers in Kenya hiked with the sales were generally picking up.
Although Dr Mbithi was anxious about the prices of fresh flowers in Kenya may go and get but he was quietly sure that they can adjust the given prices for flowers in Europe to counterpoint the increasing freight rates.
Due to the 7-day closings of flights in and out of Europe, the Kenya flowers industry recorded losses of $3 million (Sh231.75 million) on daily bases, interpreting to a overall loss of $21 million (Sh1.6 billion) during the whole period.
The average Kenya flowers industry exports close to 1000 tonnes a day, and it was affected due to postponed flights in Europe.
According to Dr. Mbithi the Europe was not approaching to other sources for flowers then Kenya. In spite of customers, flowers shops owners, florists kept complaining for the outbreak of affected worldwide supply of fresh flowers.
He also requested, “I think our customers understood the condition but now things are stabilizing with flights back to normal.”
